Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing is designed to prepare individuals to assume leadership roles in academia and health care settings, emphasizing teaching, research, and professional service activities. The program focuses on nursing scholarship to facilitate development of new knowledge and nursing education directed at improving nursing care outcomes for individuals, families, communities, and systems. The program also focuses on holistic nursing scholarship as it relates to improving the care of individuals, families, groups, and communities experiencing or at risk for health disparities.
