The mission of the Department of Sociology has a core value of theoretical and social diversity, promoting a more just society, focusing on social, economic, and cultural issues that impact people locally, nationally, and globally.

The Master of Arts degree in Sociology prepares students for a wide variety of career fields, including STEM positions, marketing, management, education, law, medicine, and social services. Sociology majors are in demand in the 21st century due to both their hard skills, as well as their understanding, communication, flexibility, leadership, motivation, patience, persuasion, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, time management, and work ethic.

Our nationally ranked Department of Sociology offers both programs on campus and online. Students gain a firm foundation in social theory and methodologies. Broadly our courses focus on social inequality and diverse research methods as they apply to education, race, ethnicity, gender, sexualities, and other areas of our social realities. Faculty are experts in their fields and nationally recognized.

Graduate students in Sociology in our online program will complete the Non-Thesis Program Requirements: Coursework Only. This consists of 36 hours of coursework with 15 hours of required courses, and 21 hours of Sociology graduate electives.
