About the Department of Sociology

New Mexico State University's nationally-ranked Department of Sociology provides our students with a firm foundation in social theory and methodologies. Our Sociology faculty are experts in their fields and nationally recognized.

The Department of Sociology's mission has a core value of theoretical and social diversity. We strive to promote a more just society, focusing on various social, economic, and cultural issues that impact people locally, nationally, and globally.

Broadly speaking, our courses focus on social inequality, as well as the diverse research methods that scholars can apply to education, race, ethnicity, gender, sexualities, and other areas of our social realities.
