The MA in Education + Early Childhood Teacher Licensure program includes 100% online coursework, as well as field experiences in a public school setting. Throughout your courses in this flexible, CAEP-accredited program, you’ll cover topics such as qualitative and quantitative designs for research in curriculum, methods and materials for using developmentally appropriate practices while teaching young children, and current trends and problems facing the early education field.
At the end of the program, you’ll have the opportunity to put the theory you’ve learned into practice during a 16-week student teaching internship. Enjoy four weeks of mentorship by a master-level teacher, then thrive on your own as an educator of young children.

The MA in Education + Early Childhood Teacher Licensure program requires 42 credits of graduate coursework, which typically takes two years to complete. This includes 11 content-based, 3-credit courses and one field-based, 9-credit course. The program is designed to meet the professional education course requirements for teacher licensure as a part of a Master of Arts in Education degree program.

To qualify for the program, you must:
- Have completed a bachelor’s degree in a closely related field with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
- Be admitted to the NMSU Graduate School
- Be admitted to the College of Education’s School of Teacher Preparation, Administration, and Leadership
